Fishing Guide in Lake Bridgeport
Lake Bridgeport gives me some of the best crappie fishing in North Texas, and I've been chasing them on these waters for years.
Fishing Lake Bridgeport
Sitting just northwest of Fort Worth in Wise County, Lake Bridgeport is a 11,000-acre reservoir that holds a strong crappie population year after year. The lake has plenty of submerged timber, dock pilings, and creek channels that crappie love to suspend around, especially when the water warms up. What I appreciate about this lake is that it doesn't get the pressure that bigger impoundments do, so the fish are typically willing to bite when you find the right school.
Spring is when things really heat up here. As the water climbs into the mid-60s, crappie move shallow to spawn around docks and brush piles in the backs of coves. This is my favorite time to fish because you can catch them on jigs fished slowly under a float or vertical-jigging small plastics right on the structure. Summer gets them deeper during the heat of the day, so we focus on deeper brush in 15-25 feet of water. Fall offers another solid window when the lake cools and fish feed up before winter.
A typical trip out of Bridgeport means we're on the water quick, and I can get you on fish within a reasonable run from the launch. We'll work a combination of docks and deeper brush, adjusting our depth and presentation based on what the fish are showing us that day. I keep things simple and teach you what to look for so you can replicate the success on your own trips.
